Our Real Legislature
Don't
forget to turn on SCOTUS Blog
if you want to watch a live execution. I mean, our country's
fate, as determined by the 9 guys in
robes.
The best case scenario, IMO, is the court throws out the
entire Obamacare law in language so narrowly defined that Medicare is
also thrown out. Chance of that happening is about less than
0. At a
minimum then, the personal mandate must be stricken, meaning the
government cannot force people to purchase heath insurance.
The odd thing, to me, is that while better than two-thirds
of us hate
Obamacare, and want it thrown out, polls indicate that only 19% want
the government to then leave health care as it is. With 4%
undecided,
77% want a new bill enacted. If they were asked what they want in a
health care bill, what would they answer? We already have
Medicare and
Medicaid, so what's left? The answer, I'm afraid, would be
Obamacare
without any opt-in at all. Obamacare for free, for
everyone. Just do
it. It's who we've become.

I can think of, right off the bat, three things that would dramatically ¨fix¨ our healthcare system. Tort reform, tort reform and tort reform. I´m sure there are other things, but I´m just on my first cuppa joe.
ReplyDelete"Tort reform" has nothing to do with the current problems in health insurance.
ReplyDeleteCompared to other things, tort reform is not a big player.
ReplyDeleteThe current problem in health insurance is that it is NOT insurance.
Things to fix it:
1)intERstate sales & competition
2)actual INSURANCE for hi-dollar coverage
3)open and overt pricing
4)shopping for service provider
5)consumer incentive to limit consumption
6)consumer incentive to shop around for best deal
7)govermnent go play on the beach or something, leave us alone
8)did I mention for the government to get their paws off?
Just my thinkin'

Chuck, God bless you man. I'll have to tell my Doctor friends that they're wrong about why they have to sign off on all those useless tests to protect their asses from the Torts.
ReplyDeleteThe two BIGGEST contributions to health insurance costs are #1-Tort, #2 ILLEGALS. Doctors and Hospitals charge more because they pay more out of their pockets for protection against torts and because nobody else is footing the bill for all these illegals that use ER's and don't pay a dime.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with torts? I think they are delicious.
ReplyDeleteFactoid: Half of all lawyers on Earth live in the USofA.
ReplyDeleteWhy is that, Mommy?
GaGator
.
Bad news Chuck, as some other guy said, "First kill all the lawyers".

If they would be allowed to sell insurance across state lines, it would also do a lot to lower insurance premiums as it would spread the risk out further.
ReplyDeleteOther things:
1) HSA's standardized. Why is it Congress couldn't do this even in Obamacare, I will never know
2) Allow a la carte purchasing. (For example: after dad's vasectomy, the family can drop the pregnancy coverage.)
3) Institute a 'loser-pays' fees system in Medical Malpractice.
