What's with Pootie Poo?

"If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a
good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what
 the hell." TRKOF&S

LIARS LIE

Res Ipsa Loquitur
2004

Robert Conquest once asked the Russo-Hungarian historian Tibor Szamuely why Stalin had ordered his old friend Marshal Yegorev killed. Szamuely replied: “Why not?” It was a better explanation than most Sovietologists could muster.
Michael Weiss asks, and answers Why the West misreads Putin on Syria, and the answer seems to be Why not?” Not since FDR was so besotted by the muderous Joseph Stalin (calling him "Uncle Joe!") has  US President so misread evil as did "W" with Putin (Pootie -Poo)!

Weiss 's analysis (a good read) summation -

.The truth is this. Putin’s only criticism of Assad is that Assad has not already destroyed this annoying little revolution and convinced the world that he is doing so as part of of the global war on terror. ... When Russia sounds more conciliatory to the Western position, it is to buy more time for Damascus. If Putin has one lament, it is only that Bassel al-Assad, Bashar’s smarter older brother, died in a car crash in 1994. Thus was a perfectly good client state entrusted to a combination of Fredo Corleone and Forrest Gump. If Putin ever did accede to a “transition” of power, you can be sure the man to take Bashar’s place would be more like Bassel, and like Vladimir.

  1. When faced with credible power, the Russians respect it, and stay in their box. When faced with feckless idiocy, they go adventuring. They haven't respected a democrat in the history of our Republic. If Condi was good for anything, she was good at handling the Rooskies.

    there you'll see real action...

Then, like in the good old days, the bulldozers

  6. Putin is just being a realist.

Ataturk knew his own people well when he put the Turkish Army in charge of enforcing Turkey's secular constitution.

The second Islamics get a popular vote, they vote in a theocracy that immediately institutes one party religious rule.

Now that Turkey no longer has such a constitutional provision, it is following in the steps of Iran pretty damned fast.

Syria will be there as soon as they Islamicists can get all of the old regime up against a wall.

  7. Russia's right on this one. The so-called Arab Spring is just bringing to power jihadis who wage war on every other religion in whatever country the gain power in, including Myanmar.

"The so-called Arab Spring is just bringing to power jihadis ..."

What happens when they have taken over all of the ME and N. Africa?
What does a dog do after it CATCHES the car? or the postman?
These mugs will be battling with each other until the sun goes nova. That is if they don't starve first. When the petroleum ride winds down, and there's no more bazillions coming in for doing nothing, what will they do to pay for their limo's and everything else? They don't know how to turn on the pool pump, much less fix it when it breaks. They'll have too little arable soil to support their growN populations.
I predict a frigging mess, with each tinpot dictator declaring war or fatwa on their neighbors. May they both lose.
