Fleming:
What Life Was Like in 1776
Americans
had the
highest per capita income in the civilized world, paid the lowest
taxes—and were determined to keep it that way.
[...] In the northern colonies, according to
historical
research, the top 10% of the population owned about 45% of the wealth.
In some parts of the South, 10% owned 75% of the wealth. But unlike
most other countries, America in 1776 had a thriving middle class.
Well-to-do farmers shipped tons of corn and wheat and rice to the West
Indies and Europe, using the profits to send their children to private
schools and buy their wives expensive gowns and carriages.
Artisans—tailors, carpenters and other skilled workmen—also prospered,
as did shop owners who dealt in a variety of goods. Benjamin Franklin
credited his shrewd wife, Deborah, with laying the foundation of their
wealth with her tradeswoman's skills.
Several hundred miles inland was the "back country," and at the time of
the Revolution, not many people went there by choice. Most were poor
and landless—younger sons, for example, whose older brothers had
inherited the family's property. Life on the outskirts of civilization
was hard and often violent. Morals on the Western frontier were often
much more relaxed than they were in the civilized East. [continue]
In
summation: Things were pretty much like they were until, oh, lets say
FDR, LBJ, WJC, and Barry Soetoro. Damned good on the freedom
front.
Worth fighting for.

Obama & Napolitano: ‘Liberty
Lovers’ Are Terrorists
A new study funded by the Department of Homeland
Security characterizes Americans who are “suspicious of centralized
federal authority,” and “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme
right-wing” terrorists.
-
Americans who believe their “way of life” is under attack;
-
Americans who are “fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and
international in orientation)”;
-
People who consider themselves “anti-global” (presumably those who are
wary of the loss of American sovereignty);
-
Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority”;
-
Americans who are “reverent of individual liberty”;
-
People who “believe in conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to
national sovereignty and/or personal liberty.”
None
of this is news to you. Which is why we, unlike 1917 Russians, or
1932
Germans, have a good chance of turning things around.

ReplyDeleteActually, I don't think we have any chance at all. We're going down. But not without a fight.

Buck up, jd. It is always easier to reinvent a lost idea that it was to invent it in the first place because we know what is possible. Liberty is now part of our consciousness. Whatever they replace it with will fall because it will be based on division, oppression and despair. We will get a second, third or nth shot at the dream. Look at the stirring in some of the former Russian colonies; those that truly threw off their strongmen rulers are inching towards liberty.

Don't forget Woodrow Wilson in your list of arrogant, elitist usurpers. Piss on his grave too, if you have a chance.

Its funny but lately every day I read about some Democrat who is going to be too "busy" to go the Democrat National Convention and isn't going to endorse Obama. Also things like, "Pennsylvania is solid for Obama, Uh Pennsylvania has a number of counties that are not going for Obama,then Pennsylvania is up for grabs." Rinse, repeat. That toe sucker Dick Morris may actually be right for a change.
