Every time I hear the "enlightened despot" argument, I just wanna spit. Progressivism, socialism, and fascism have common roots. Ultimately, the only difference I can see between 'em is that fascists had cooler uniforms.
And as P.J. O'Rourke said, "I never minded being called a Nazi, because nobody ever fantasized about being tied up and sexually ravished by a liberal."
Liberals are fine with totalitarianism because they assume that they will be the ones in power
