Very
quietly Seth Rogen has crept onto my list of people whose movies I'll
watch just because he's in them. Most of them, I mean all of them
that I've seen, are quirky (The Green Hornet, Zack and Miri Make a Porno,
Superbad, Freaks and Geeks), but
never ever slap-stick. And funny. And Rogen's character is always cool, and that goes
for Waltz.
Take This Waltz
(2011) was written and directed by Sarah Polley, and is nominally a
Chick Flick listed as comedy/drama— "A
happily married woman falls for the artist who lives across the street."
I loved this movie (it receives just 6.5 stars on IMDB). The
dialog
between Michelle (the "good wife"), her husband (Rogen), and
paramour
(Luke Kirby) fairly crackles. There are times when you'll be
startled, and surprised. And, there is, in the end something of
an understated Greek tragedy quality imposed.
My guess is that everyone in the family will love it. Little
Tommy—because Michelle Williams and Sarah Silverman are
quite naked;
mom and dad—because both will see something of themselves in it.
Five
Stars for me.
Disclaimer - I no longer go to the
cinema, nor pay any attention
to what films are popular, or not. So, Take This Waltz may
have won 10 Academy Awards and I shall not have known it.

If you like Michelle Williams, and this Tommy very much does, you should see, "My Week With Marilyn." Based on a true story, Michelle portrays Marilyn Monroe filming in the uk in an oscar nominated performance.

I do not go to the theater but I do frequent Big Hollywood for ideas about what little gems are available. That is how I found Despicable Me, The Blind Side, etc.

Boss, if you haven't seen it, he's the best best friend ever in "50/50".
ReplyDeleteDitto what Thomas said. "Marilyn" is exquisite. Michelle's also brilliant in a movie which sucks red donkey dick (Incendiary--complete dreck--don't see it, even for her).
