Not every PC and laptop is capable of having the Secure Boot "feature" disabled. Unfortunately, there's no way to be absolutely certain until after a purchase.
ReplyDeleteThe intent of Secure Boot may be to keep malware from running, but the most glaring consequence is that it keeps operating systems other than Windows 8 from running. I'll just take my chances with my old, insecure 2011 laptop with Win 7, an up-to-date AV package, and my common sense.

iri, as I knew it would, that just got debunked. The bozo guy got "released" from his computer company. Turned in company computer. Boss saw "pressure cooker bomb" and "backpacks" in the search, and wanted to make sure the guy wasn't going nuts.

I'm actually playing with the 8.1 preview release right now via VirtualBox as well as Classic Shell (thanks Jon!) to see if it's salvageable. Windows 8 as-is sucks hard, sorry.

I've not read anything good (to my mind) about windows 8 but when shopping for a new PC I noticed that the big stores and private makers usually offer either 7 or 8installed. I'd already decided that if I buy a new PC it would have Windows 7. Good luck. I hate computers.
Josh, I saw that update from the lady in question on Drudge this morning. But, the cops acted like assholes regardless of where they got their information. The man's former boss was a super asshole, in my opinion. Thanks for the info.
No doubt the boss was a moron, and investigating a work computers web history is a gross waste of law enforcements time. I just knew that was one of those weird vague stories that would change in short order.
