I inherited a small mandolin slicer. I used it once and was hooked!
ReplyDeleteTim
I am old and have arthritic hands. Their can opener and potato peeler are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on 99% of what they make...EXCEPT for GARLIC PRESS.
ReplyDeleteAll their designs suck...or at least break quickly.
IKEA surprisingly, makes the cheapest, best, strongest and EASIEST TO CLEAN one!
I have one of their pepper grinders (which I use a lot). Best one I have owned.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right about the garlic press Kauf Buch; I never use it, opting instead to use the grater-or smash and chop.
ReplyDeleteMAKE MOUNDS AND MOUNDS OF SLAW!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the Pitch Biz (I pitched The Amazing Ginsu Knife for some 25 yrs.) a yellow and orange plastic mandoline slicer (which in the biz was known as "the chipper") was one of the other enduring items in our stable. But we always figured that, unlike the knife, it was one of those products that was hardly ever used once people actually got it home.
I'm happy to hear that you use and enjoy your mandolin. But we also used to joke that they were actually made by Johnson&Johnson (in order to help them sell more Band-Aids)!
P.S. One of the neatest things about a mandoline is that you can use it to make lattice fries such as are served at Chick-fil-A.
ReplyDeleteI found 3 OXO items worth my while.
ReplyDeleteThe smooth edge can opener makes tinned cans seem like a 21st Century invention. They reseal good enough for a few days in the fridge.
The no-blood julienne peeler quickly dispatches carrots for slaw.
The high torque whisk is indispensable for blending small batches of salad dressing. You rub the handle between your palms for a power whirl.
Heh, Tim... I see what you did there..
ReplyDeleteThey make a great ice cream paddle scoop that uses a steel blade. A carbon steel blade, that blackens with age, and collects those little barnacles in the dish washer. But it works great otherwise.
