Defiance
is a 2008 World War II era film written, produced, and directed by
Edward Zwick, and set during the occupation of Belarus by Nazi Germany.
The film is an account of the Bielski partisans, a group led by Polish
Jewish brothers who saved and recruited Jews in Belarus during the
Second World War. The film stars Daniel Craig as Tuvia Bielski, Liev
Schreiber as Zus Bielski, Jamie Bell as Asael Bielski, and George
MacKay as Aron Bielski. The film is an adaptation of Nechama Tec's book
Defiance: The Bielski Partisans (1993).

(original), you'll likely love Defiance
(trailer). Great acting, and factually based. I give it an
easy  .
As an aside,
I coudn't help wondering, as I'm sure many of you have
before, and given the abject starvation these refuges experienced, what
is the actual nutritional value of seminal fluid? As it turns out
(the scant 3/4 tsp aside), it's great for wrinkles, but prolly not life
sustaining. Of course (most) men would rather starve. |

ReplyDeleteLet me tell you a little story about something you don't know about yourself. This week I Amazoned an antique book of 16th Century essays by Michel de Montaigne. The essays remain highly influential in Western Culture, but they are freely available online. This book is special because it was curated and illustrated by Salvador Dalí. Honestly, I bought it as a cheap way to get a bunch of rare Dalí prints.
Reading the text, I immediately understood what attracted the painter to the author. Montaigne develops his philosophical points through storytelling: Lots of stories melting into one-another, from around the globe and throughout the ages. Then he applies a smidgeon of this own insight to bind all these disparate allusions into an indisputable lesson.
This is exactly the paranoiac-critical method Dalí used. And which also defines your blogging style. As with the case at hand, it can crash and burn, but true artists thrive on this form of high-risk expression. That's why I am a faithful reader and why you are this year's Salvador Dalí Award laureate. ((Dint see that coming, didja?))
The aspect of paranoia that Dalí was interested in and which helped inspire the method was the ability of the brain to perceive links between things which rationally are not linked.
