ReplyDeleteAround 1988 an actual Mustang Marine with a warriors soul became Commandant of the Marine Corps. His name was Al Gray. He had a meet and greet at the base theater (3rd MAW) and during it, some BAM Gunny asked him the predictable question..."Sir, what future advancements do you forsee for women in the Marine Corps"?

Anything he said after that was inaudible due to the explosion of cheers and Ooh Rah's coming from the crowd. The Orange County Register lost it's mind the next day. Those were the days. I remember female Marines that were perpetually preggers. It was a great scam, they did almost nothing and got promoted like clockwork while good guys that did their job got passed over and shown the door. -Anymouse
