I'm posting this NBC News segment on the "Valley of Death" for one
reason, although I'm sure you'll find plenty to talk about in the way
it's presented.
AS you see, these guys are constantly being sniped, mortared, and killed
by al-Qaeda and Taliban they can't even see, despite having the high
ground overlooking the valley. I watch enough Military Channel to know we have all sort of technology to spot bad guys. Like heat sensors? FLIR.
Satellites that can read the warning on a cigarette pack?
Drones, Blah-blah-blah. Can somebody explain to me why
these Talibanners are still alive? Thank you.

2 words: government lawyers.

You forgot Drones and Air Strikes...you pose a good question sir!

It must be true cause the lamestream media says it is.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet these GIs are seething mad at the Vietnamazation of their story.
RAK
Tranzis. Some of which happen to be government lawyers.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned Drones C/R. And lawyers, while a very real problem, don't seen to enter into this scene. I think we need a real live trooper who's there, or been there, to answer this one.
ReplyDeleteJust in case you missed the 60 Minutes story, "Elite Officer Recalls Bin Laden Hunt, Delta Force Commander Says The Best Plan To Kill The Al Qaeda Leader In 2001 Was Nixed"

The problem is money, jihaddis, and guns infiltrating from Pakistan.
ReplyDeleteUntil Pakistan becomes a no-go zone for the Taliban, they will keep infiltrating.
The troopers that are dealing with the problem are working with tribesmen inside the tribal areas of Pakistan ... and no, they won't talk to us about anything they are doing, since it is all probably something that could be considered an act of war by the Pakis.
Don't see any answer to my question there K.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking it's real tight, politically driven, Rules of Engagement.
ReplyDeleteMore like rules of disengagement.
ReplyDeleteBush is allowing the State Dept. way too much say in what's going on here ... and, with the exception of a the Poles, the NATO units are useless.
I might suggest reading Michael Yon's stuff, he's writing dispatches from the rockbox right now.
Mortars and rockets, the firefinder radar can track back to the launcher in as little as 15 seconds, depending on operator/conditions. Which means can counter-battery, call in air or vector a ground unit over.
ReplyDeleteIF they're allowed to.
Son's MOS is working that unit, says it can track birds in flight, let alone shells.
