I think yur a trouble maker mister ...

The high court refused to review an appellate-level decision that says the president and U.S. military can arrest and indefinitely detain individuals seen “as a threat to national security anyone viewed as a troublemaker.”

Check your privilege at the door whitey

There is a phrase that floats around college campuses, Princeton being no exception, that threatens to strike down opinions without regard for their merits, but rather solely on the basis of the person that voiced them. “Check your privilege,” the saying goes, and I have been reprimanded by it several times this year.”

He’s 20, he’s white, and he’s a freshman at Princeton University.

According to the ethnic and feminist studies college students and professors who frequently and vehemently complain that this country is steeped in racism and sexism and is only fair and just and equal for white, heterosexual males – he is the poster child for so-called “White Privilege.”

His name is Tal Fortgang, and just eight months into his Ivy League experience, he’s been told on numerous occasions to “check his privilege” – a phrase that has taken social media social justice campaigning by storm.

It is meant to remind white, heterosexual males that they have it so good because they’re white, heterosexual males. They haven’t faced tough times, they don’t know what it’s like to be judged by the color of their skin.

Oh, but they do. [Full]

Can anyone add anything that's been left unsaid about all this?   I don't think so.  After six years of Obama my mind's done been blown away.  What?  You're a masocist?  Okay.

Thanks, thoR!

Chef and Farmer

Chef and Farmer

Vivian Howard originally made a name for herself in the Manhattan restaurant world and with her own gourmet delivery service. Acclaim and potential investors poured in, but it was the offer from her own parents that called to her the loudest. They would help her build a restaurant — but with one catch. She had to open it back home in Eastern North Carolina, a place to which she swore she would never return.

And so The Chef & the Farmer, located in Kinston, North Carolina, was born. Six years in, Vivian and her restaurant have won numerous accolades, including her selection as a James Beard semi-finalist, but the challenges continue. As the series opens, Vivian and Ben are juggling the restaurant, raising twins and anxiously building their own home — right next door to her parents.

Note that I've posted this in the "Idyll" rather than "Food" file.

Perhaps my pleasure with this PBS series is due to my family's love for Nags Head and indeed the entire East North Carolina region.  At one point we loved all of North Carolina and pondered a retired life there, but our last trip to the Raleigh region showed it had become a traffic choked hell, akin to Virginia Beach.  And then they started electing Democrats.

I avoided "A Chef's Life" for a long time because, duh, the genre has exploded, and most are the same.  But this  has a sweetness to it that I cannot get enough of.  I adore these peole and would like to be their neighbors, and spend time every day at the arster bar.  More and more I'm hankering to  head south.  This one could happen,  because seeing the kids would only require a 6 hour drive each way. For them, LOL.

Oh My

Clayton Lockett, a four-time felon sentenced to death for shooting 19-year-old Stephanie Neiman with a sawed-off shotgun and watching as two accomplices buried her alive in rural Kay County in 1999 after Neiman and a friend arrived at a home the men were robbing, suffered for 10 minutes when his lethal cocktail was buggered by ironic deus ex machina . Boo-Hoo.

Sterling Stuff

It's really simple.  Private conversations between Sterling and his mistress, in which she lead him into areas she knew his views would bring outrage were surreptitiously taped.  The tape was released.  One of the mistress's other boyfriends is Magic Johnson, a part owner of the LA Dodgers.  Now we hear that all this can be made right if the Clippers are sold to a group fronted by Magic Johnson.  What are the odds that Johnson and his group conspired to get the team by staging this outrage.  It's not like this was a big secret.  Everyone has known for years Sterling was like that.  He's been sued and fined for his slumlord activities.  It was just a case of working through his mistress to stage a coup, on behalf of Magic Johnson.  Just look at who benefits.
