The
Pennsylvania Democrat plans to meet with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender community leaders in Pittsburgh on Monday to discuss "steps
the United States government must take immediately to address safety
concerns across the country from commonsense gun laws to ongoing acts
of hate," according to a statement from Casey's office.
Members of Congress on both sides of the
aisle offered their condolences and expressed outrage at the attacks.

Casey, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a
statement that the attack highlighted the need to protect Americans
from terrorists and address gun violence. The Orlando attack is the
deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

"While we are still learning about the shooter's motivation, this is an
act of terror and yet another mass shooting in our nation," Casey said.
"It is also an attack on
the LGBT community."
