Shelby Cobra Jet Fighter

FantomWorks, one of my three  favorite car restoration shows, blew my mind with this Jet Fighter Shelby.   In the first place, the 1965 Shelby Cobra has iconic status in that world. The car came into owner Dan Short's shop (in Norfolk, VA)  for an electrics overhaul, and additional roll bar.  That snowballed into a request for a  jet fighter "body wrap,"  instead of paint, and three machine guns.  Dan is a car purist. Did all he could to dissuade the owner from this sacrilege, but the guy was determined, and had the cash.

I was with Dan. The guy was nuts.  And, like Dan, I was shocked by the result, and  absolutely  love  it.  It's classic.

  2. OOPS! I posted my comment to the wrong article. Look above.

BTW we're flying out to Phoenix next week for a face-to-face and so I can finally touch some metal.

  3. I have always thought that a paintball machine gun would be the perfect outlet for frustration with crappy drivers, especially the ones that cut in from the right on the interstate. Never imagined three barrels but I'm inspired.

  4. Of course, as much as your kid would like you to drive him to school in this beauty (can you imagine the drooling looks from his friends!) no gun-free school zone would allow such. So much for our freedoms.

  5. Those are gunbarrels only. But, yeah, even that would twist panties these days.

  6. I hate it. Sacriledge. I saw them run at Sebring in 1965.

The 427 Cobra is an axe; crude, but effective.

  7. I'm with rwnutjob.
Sometimes, just because you can doesn't mean you should. The suspension mods and the foot room mod make good sense, but the guns and paint/skin job? They butchered a beautiful car, even if it is a repro.

  8. I don't disagree, but I have no "reverence" for the Shelby, and I appreciate the resultant eye candy. I am entertained. I also expect the owner will be back at Fantomworks in a few years and have the wrapper peeled off and faux guns removed. Presto.

Sometimes Blogger IDs a post as spam and I have to hand clear it. Which means I have to check the holding cell, and I don't always.

  12. Well, what we said was
"This is clearly a case of gilding the lily" and
"Is there no limit to garishness?"

    Blogger ID'd that as spam??

  13. NOW it appears (see first comment, above)! It certainly wasn't there before! Oh well, better late than never, we suppose.
