The sign [ promoting the bar's “Marion Berry’s Dirty Asian Summer
Punch.”] was removed Friday after a city agency threatened to drag
Tomelden before the D.C. Commission on Human Rights in a rare display
of the city’s little-known
power to regulate speech in places of public accommodation.
Little
known power ? I have to imagine (with a good deal of hope) that
even
our dysfunctional Supreme Court would invoke the very well known First
Amendment guaranteeing free speech in this case.
Disclosure:
This is what happens when Democrats are in charge

Regardless of the outcome of any court case this would cost serious money to fight (and in the interim they might find their license lifted) - the fact that very few can afford to fight something like this is exactly what the city is counting on.
ReplyDelete.
Censoring opposing views is all they have since logic and reason is never on their side. They also consider it some kind of copyright infringement when we use their own vile tactics against them.

This could be fun. How about a tall Bloody Barry.
ReplyDeleteThe Commission was only trying to protect the feelings of that handful of Asians not already offended by Marion Berry's previous statements.

My favorite "public accomodation" is about a 5-iron shot from where my Jeep lives in the Georgia Blue Ridge.
ReplyDeleteThe D**** Tavern ("Likker in the front, poker in the back") encourages discussions on cultural issues.
Toleration reigns, as our enlightened State has empowered CCL holders to publicly enjoy adult
beverages while equipped.
The Wash. DC Commission on Human Rights should come down for a cold one.
They might discover a whole new awareness of community values.

Good thing for him he didn't name the cocktail after Muhammad.
ReplyDeleteIf you make the place not exactly open for 'public accomodation', you can post what you want, no?
ReplyDeleteSo, as in days gone by, everyone who wants to enter must join the club. Get a membership certificate, bracelet, what ever, and then it make it a 'members only' operation. Charge a 25 cent fee for doc preparation...
Viola. Fixed.
Go away, busybodies. Move to NYC and get Auntie Bloomberg to clean up the local waterholes.
