Actually, I've had that type of comment at work. Although I've never questioned myself like that.
The comment was more like: "You are too assertive. You need to take the time to listen to other people's ideas and discuss their attributes."
My reply was something like this: "I've been in this line of work (Software Distribution and Updating) for 20+ years. I'm *good* at what I do. I've been through nearly every possible scenario. Listenting through some asshat suggest how I should do my job with an idea I discussed and dismissed a dozen times is not an effective use of my time. I'm not going to waste your money by entertaining unworkable solutions. And I'm not going to waste your money or my time by continuing this conversation."
And I walked out of the meeting.
A few months later, I transferred to work for a woman who referred to me as her "bulldog protector of the Production Websites". She loves the way I work and the attitude I have. And I love my job now. And I've a couple of OS/2 servers and a Lexmark printer that were supposed to be cycled back to Dell a long time ago. But no one fucks with me. It's great.
I love being a bully. :) -
