Segway segue

Segway segue

At least as big a mystery to me as Carrot Top is why Dean Kamen's Segway™ has yet to realize it's potential.  When it debuted, Kamen predicted it would change the way cities are designed.  I concurred, and would have invested in it had the opportunity existed.   I have still never seen one on the street.  It seems a natural way to get city cops back working a beat again --- well, maybe not.  In American cities today, the thing would be stolen. or reduced to a skeleton when the cop went in to get a donut.  Still, add this to the list of stuff I NEED if I'm to save America. You do want the country saved, don't you?

Too expensive.

I don't know how fast it goes, but I wonder if it has redundant gyros? Could be interesting if one quits during a high speed chase.

On the other hand, look at the potential for aftermarket accessories - it's screaming for some flashy 20" wheels and a subwoofer....

About $3500 new on EBay. Still, had industry and gummints ordered them at the levels I expected, the price would prolly be down to about the $1200 range by now. I guess that means you wont be sending me a Segay now, doesn't it. :(((

I've seen them in several airports, a couple of times on the street, and in the big downtown mall in Indianapolis. Almost all ridden by cops, which makes sense. My guess is that $3 gas will help boost sales, too.

There is a public segue tour of Austin (TX) but the cops all ride bicycles.

Do you think there's enough demand for a way, way, way, way cheaper version? It should be pretty easy to make them WAY cheaper than that.
