Wow...thanks so much for that link. I didn't realize how old I was before reading it, but I'm glad for it. " But I miss the hint of drama that went with "emergency brake." Curb feelers, I still refer to them, only they're what people put out when they're seeking info on the sly. Ah, well. It's a great read. thanks, Juice

I came across the words "play pretty" a while back, and realized no young person would have a clue that it was a toy rather than an admonition.

I started feeling old when my (then) 19-year old son had to borrow my "play pretty" 1971 Chevy Nova to take his friends home.

When he returned for his car, his comment was "Gee Dad, the guys think it's real neat how you put the dimmer switch on the floor like that."

Notice how nobody says "Step on the starter" anymore. Anybody have a clue what I'm talking about NOW?

I'm a young pup, but I have heard
all those and have used a starter
that you had to side step and hit
the "foot feed".

Having grown up in a parts store, I've had to look for parts for many items in the situations discussed. I hadn't heard duece & a quarter since the early 80's - Thanks for some real memories ! Oh, and find me a water pump for a '58 Volkswagen Beetle !

Some of the old guys I hang out with refer to the gas pedal as the "volume pedal."

Speaking of VW Beetles, they call the little bar on the passenger-side dashboard the "Oh, SHIT! bar" because that's what passengers are ususally saying when they reach for it.

Actually, Boazo, the trick was to push the choke knob in just the right amount after the engine caught.

Particularly interesting on a cold morning when you knew you were only gonna get one or two shots at it before the battery gave up.
