What I Thought of the Ziplock Omelet Challenge

Dearest Rodger- :D

When I read your post and viewed the photos of the Ziplock Omelet Recipe*slash*Idea,  I thought it could be great fun in the kitchen while celebrating our annual Labor Day Extravaganza, that included twelve people here for three days.  You know, a smorgasbord of ingredients added to individually labeled bags of "2" eggs each...so forth and so on.  Boiled in a bag omelets?  Well, if it made for good fun and laughs, why not try it?  But first....there must be a trial run before subjecting our families to TOO much fun.

Both my husband and myself are former restaurant folks who can serve up some fine frenchie-style rolled omelets any day of the week. But the Ziplock Omelet was going to be a "time saver?" and FUN.  So, what the heck, I did a trial run last month.

Omelette TubeFirst, I could've turned out three to four exquisite omelets in the time it took just for the pot of water to boil, with the lid on, and salt added.  Second, the perfectly rolled omelet look your photo showed, didn't quite turn out on my first (and only) attempt. Third (and finally) the texture while in the mouth was not like any omelet I'd ever savored in the past.

In conclusion, I'll provide you with my opinion on the final result.  One statement was given verbally to my husband, and the other is provided in type for the rated 'G' version.  I'll let you guess which is which:

"Looks like a drumstick, chews like a dick."     "Looks like a drumstick, chews like a sponge."

***All in all, it was a FUN experience, so, THANKS!***

Bah! It's a great idea as a timesaver if you need to be busy while it's cooking. If you're a French chef, who would otherwise be hovering over your "exquisite" omelettes during that time, well then...

I tried it by making up a half dozen eggs in three ziplocks with omelette ingredients, then freezing the baggies. I dropped one in a pot of cold water on the stove this AM and let it cook while I showered and dressed. When I was done I had breakfast ready to snarf.

I normally never have time for breakfast. This could change that.
