Use that big stick

In terms of vetoes, George W. Bush trails Ronald Reagan 78-1. He has two years left to close the gap.

The new Mooselim Congressman tours his district in Michigan. He didn't understand why some people felt uneasy.

"Bush's refusal to veto helped doom Social Security reform."

LOLOLOL !

yeah, sure, that's what stopped Social Security reform?

Not the AARP spending some 30 million in a month, wimpy Republican Rhinos like McCain, more slander from the L-MSM + Democrat Socialists, and even some mindless Conservatives obsessing about other smaller spending items, missing the 'big' opportunity?

Of course I would have loved to see some Vetoes. No doubt.

Lott has made some fine efforts, and I don't think Bush is as large as Reagan, but I question the objective nature of this work.

This fool (ME), will be happy to embrace the 'Bush Sicko' label again, especially knowing the Reagan Administration outspent the Bush Era in percentage of GDP.

The comparisons are going to be made. One sincere difference, President Reagan did not have troops, in direct armed conflict for this long. The mental turmoil on the Leader of troops in harms way, (more intensely than the Cold War), is an incredible burden. Bush has handled it with admirable strength. Sure, Bush cannot use superior vocal talent, to inspire, but who could compare to the Gipper?

Besides, Beruit, Big Dig, enabling Social Security, Amnesty, Bork, etc...

I hope no one misunderstands, I feel President Reagan is pure gold. A personal hero of this poster, who has few.

But again, many Conservatives abandoned Reagan in the Second Term, with the same negative view Jeremy Lott employs here. Especially when confronting Iran Contra. And yes, I made similar defense efforts for Reagan years ago. Just asking for an objective look.

In my humble opinion, the Conservatives who abandoned the Reagan Administration, lost sight of the big goal, defeating the USSR, forgot many success of the Reagan Presidency in the First Term, and began to grow lazy, fat, distracted, with the growing health of the Economy. (I see a similar pattern happening today. Suddenly many expected perfection, losing sight of the Carter alternative of the past).

Bush has managed a number of positive (Conservative) policy directions both Domestic and Foreign, including legislative accomplishments, judicial appointments, etc.: Koyoto rejection, International Court rebuke, Tort Reform, Bankruptcy Reform, Competition in Medicare (we already were spending a bundle without the postive changes), Testing in Education (we already were spending a bundle without the positive changes), Tax Relief, Late-term Abortion Ban, Alito, Roberts, Brown, John Bolton, etc...

Although Bush has been far from perfect, I feel Lott is seeing the past in a slanted light. The Bush of today is simply not as bad in context with all considered (especially the GWOT), nor was the Reagan Presidency considered as lofty at the time, (not getting just due, until the Legend was out of Office for many years).

I ask you, are the frustrations we face today, with the unethical liberal Democrat efforts, the strains in the GWOT, mistakenly forcing some to be too harsh with this moderate Conservative, President Bush? Should a Man, who has become the symbol for Liberal Bigotry and Hatred for all Conservatives, be provided some support?

When I voted for him, I didn't expect too much, but knew the continued folly of the Clinton - Gore - Democrats was a nightmare. Then, this Man earned my respect, being one of the few in our Nation willing to fight the GWOT. Now he seems to be the only one remaining firm.

Hell, Bush Jr. was the only one calling for tax relief prior to 2000.

Strongly feel the objective insight into this Presidency was lost long ago...

Anyone that does not respect President Bush and what he has accomplished is making a bad mistake. I worked for and voted for him twice. I still support him. I have also defended him to the bitter end regarding his efforts in the War on terror. That are heroic to say the least. The tax cut was also the very ticket this country needed after the attack on the world trade center many would have in that situation been willing to abandon them in the grip of a national emergency. he had the strength of character to stand firm knowing it would heal a slumping economy. I have not abandon President Bush in any manner. I never abandoned President Reagan. It is open to question about the stress of the cold War verses Hot War I have seen both and felt the effects of both. Individuals handle stress differently.

I will also add I have never seen a leader of this nation come under such relentless and bitter assault as President Bush. As for money spent by Reagan unless you were there you could never understand the damage and condition the military was in after Carter. Not to mention a horrible morale problem. The Army was hit especially hard. I remember the Airforce not having enough spare parts to keep front line aircraft flying and combat ready. The build up of the military under Reagan was monumental and much of what we have today is a result of his actions.

Now haveing said this I will not support President Bush amnesty for illegal aliens and his open border policy and would fight it to the end. Also he must shoulder a lot of the blame for the lose of the senate and congress along with the Republican leadership in the senate for there insane attempts to push through there insane immigration policy.

Our only hope now is that the Republicans in the house led by Sensebrenner with the aid of a few democrats some just elected that ran on being opposed to this policy can fight off this monstrosity that will do such great harm to the country I love.

I am not a nativist as they like to yell now nor am I anti immigration. But this madness will do such harm it would take years to recover if in fact we ever could. If President Bush does pass this then his legacy will be that of the man that turned America into another third world crap hole.
