Ah, Kids

Today's college students have tuned out the world
The object of the educational system, taken as a whole, is not to produce hands for industry or to teach the young how to make a living. It is to produce responsible citizens. Tthe death of a democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment. - Robert M. Hutchins

I teach a seminar called "Secrecy: Forbidden Knowledge." I recently asked my class of 16 freshmen and sophomores, many of whom had graduated in the top 10 percent of their high-school classes and had dazzling SAT scores, how many had heard the word "rendition."

Not one hand went up.

That instance was no aberration. In recent years I have administered a dumbed-down quiz on current events and history early in each semester to get a sense of what my students know and don't know. Initially I worried that its simplicity would insult them, but my fears were unfounded. The results have been, well, horrifying. ... [So Much for the Information Age - cont]

But they Lovvvvve Obama's policies.

Let's see, this asshat doesn't know why we are turning out bumper crops of geo-political numbnutz but, to quote, "he's spent his life as a journalist(liberal) promoting transparency and accountability"

Oh puleeeeze, Mr Journalist, oh mighty elitist sitting on Mt Olympus staring down at us rubes. The reason we're surrounded by idiots is because of our disgraceful, government run public schools. You know, the ones run by the teacher's unions. The ones teaching children how to put condoms on cucumbers, man made global warming, Howard fucking Zinn.

Gee doyathink that might be the reason?? Huh? Doya?

Accountability my ass

If students today don't know how many people had to be murdered or impoverished to preserve socialism in the last century, they won't be as skittish about voting for socialists in this one.

Compassionate Socialism: Stalin, without the gulags.

Old people have been complaining about college students for centuries.

Back in Medieval Times, the old farts in Paris were complaining about students in the Latin Quarter, "In my day, we didn't drink cheap red wine and screw cheap women. We were serious about important things."

Going to college gives you the chance to not grow up for four more years.

Lefty teachers like him are the problem. Thanks to lefty, my kid can proudly point to the Zambezee(sp) on a map, but not the Hudson.
Way to go, lefty. MFCS.
