My wife had one of the early brick-sized phones that you had to carry in a shoulder bag back in the late-80s.

...then again my Dad (a highway engineer) had a carphone in the mid-60s that was literally a black Bell desk phone in his glove compartment hooked up to a 400-lb suitcase-sized box with glowing tubes under his front seat! When it rang the lights of the pickup truck would flash and the horn would beep. The first time it rang in the middle of the night he ripped it out and put it on his boss's desk.....

Picture... Fahther O'Brian being bothered by that pesky cell phone while delivering Holy Communion to the faithful among iron workers who 's feet haven't touched the ground in 6 weeks...."Faith and begorrah, can't a man just do his work?", said the good Fahther.

Parish priesr used to wear that very outfit....except of course, the huge white gloves.
