Commie Science

This crap with up we must not put

The Union of Concerned Scientists, producer (perpetrator) of this bag of lies, distortions and misdirection have a long, ugly history.
Students and faculty members at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology founded UCS in 1969. "Through its actions in Vietnam, our government has shaken our confidence in its ability to make wise and humane decisions," reads the UCS founding document.
Their film's thrust is the United States is building a nuclear bunker buster, ostensibly to take out rogue operations like Iran's A-Bomb facilities.  It charges that -
  1. A nuclear penetrator dropped by a plane would only penetrate a few meters into the ground.
Wikipedia... a penetrator, dropped from service height of a bomber aircraft, using kinetic energy to penetrate the shielding, and subsequently deliver a nuclear explosive to the buried target.

Rocket sled testing at Eglin Air Force Base has demonstrated penetrations of 100 to 150 feet (46 m) in concrete when traveling at 4,000 ft/s (1,200 m/s).
  1. Too shallow to contain the huge amounts of radioactive fallout.
Wikipedia  In theory, the amount of radioactive nuclear fallout would be reduced from that of a standard, air-burst nuclear detonation because they would have relatively low explosive yield. However because such weapons necessarily come into contact with large amounts of earth-based debris, they may, under certain circumstances, still generate fallout.
  1. As a result over 3 million people would be killed in the attack with up to 35 million more poisoned by nuclear radiation (mostly in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan)
USA! UAS! USA!

Oh lighten up.  It's a bullshit number from a bullshit group of  America hating leftists.

Politically charged junk science like this - UCS is active in the man caused GW charade -   finds willing customers on Capitol Hill, as well as useful idiots who are charged with educating the nation's chilluns.  Campbell Soup Company, I recall, was once rebuked by the FDA for showing vegetables in their print ad soup bowls, when in reality said vegetables are under the broth.  How is it then that people who run UCS aren't arrested, and their teaching certificates revoked?  God help them when I'm in charge.

That gave me a woody. Should I be ashamed? ;-)

Yeah . . . my first reaction was, "and that would be a bad thing precisely how?"

At one time, UCS sent me like a dozen junk mailings trying to get me to join. I noticed that, although it's supposed to be a "union" of "concerned" "scientists," they never said you had to be a scientist to join. They were very explicit on the size of the check they were expecting, though.

The "Union of Concerned Scientists" has always been at its core a liberal organization opposing the U.S. military under the guise of being composed of "scientists."

Having worked on many DoD projects in the past I have always been amazed at their supposed knowledge that allows them to critique classified military projects. Every project I worked on, they opposed. Imagine that... And they opposed them for the most spurious of scientific claims. Claims that anyone with a modicum of intelligence could disprove.

The only reason the press loves them is that they are liberal and have somewhat more knowledge about military science than the press does. Of course, my 13 year old knows more about the military than the press does.
