Been creeping around my old haunts. Can't believe I remembered my old passwords. From what I can see, the general opinion is that china may be spooked by the rumors that jolly old england may not have all that they are supposed to in them there vaults. If there is a bluff going on, China's just called it. It's best to hope for London's sake they have it all. Or it could get ugly.

Way before my time of course, but the last time something like this happened, it was France that showed up with a warship and told Richard Nixon "give us our gold."

Consensus is that the commodity and bond markets are spooked, while the equity markets are not.

This fits right in with the UBS thing. Look for the Chinese to offer private, (formerly) Swiss-style bank accounts. How do you think the ChiComs would respond if the US Government demanded detail and records on accounts held by US Citizens.

And you can bet that some entrepreneurial albeit criminal type is already working on engineering the removal of all that gold to his personal coffers posthaste!

Nope, Gayle. They aren't going to mess with the gold.

The Chinese have had enough of investing in US dollars and Federal bonds ... they are in the process of bailing out to gold.

The PRC does not like the idea of Chinese people having investments in gold in foreign banks, so they are moving these assets to HK, where they can be controlled better by the state.

Take a look at the pic of BHO on the Drudge Report. Is it just me or has his hair gotten whiter since January?

How's about this from Drudge: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2009-07/13/content_8422505.htm

The national flag of the People's Republic of China (PRC) will be hoisted at the South Lawn of the White House in Washington on September 20, media reported Sunday.
Chinese associations in the United States had applied to hold a ceremony in front of the US President’s residence to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of PRC.
