Wow, a lamp with a decent length cord. Why is it that lamps seem to come with cords that are 2ft too short to reach the outlet?

I worked a project several years ago with a retired Gunny. We were wiring up some hardware in an aircraft and he handed the tech who was working for us two connectors and told him "Make us a 16 guage 6 wire cable that will go from that recorder around the pilots seat and end at that control board. The tech scanned the area and asked "How long do you want it?"
The Gunny replied "Make it long enough to connect those two things together. If it is 2 feet too long I will call you an idiot, it it is a quarter inch too short I will kick your ass from one end of this hanger to the other."
I always like working with that guy. I wonder what he would have done with a cord that was two feet too short? -
