As Maine goes, so goes DEM chances

 A f ew hours ago ...

Snowe, no fan of AHIP report

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), on the controversial AHIP report: "It wasn't based on any valid assumptions."

Senators would continue to look at the affordability of the health insurance as they move through the process, she said before the Finance Committee convened. But she said she trusted CBO's word over a report commissioned by AHIP and conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

 The vote ...
Speaking from the Rose Garden late Tuesday afternoon, President Obama hailed the Senate Finance Committee for passing a health care reform bill and singled out Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) for showing "the political courage and the seriousness of purpose that she has demonstrated throughout this process." - (politico)
 The consequences ...

A stamp of approval from Snowe could also clear the way for other Republicans, such as Senators Susan Collins of Maine and George Voinovich of Ohio, to back the effort. Collins joined with Snowe to support Obama’s economic-stimulus package in February, and Voinovich has been pegged as a possible Republican vote for a health-care overhaul by lawmakers including his fellow Ohio senator, Democrat Sherrod Brown.

Collins, 56, said she would be “very interested” in Snowe’s decision, though she said it wouldn’t determine her vote as she goes through her own evaluation. (Bloomberg)

Newsweek (via Hot Air)
Tom DeLay, Birther?

Newsweek: You got into some trouble for saying on TV that you weren’t sure President Obama was born in the United States.

Delay: What I said was, to answer a question from Chris Matthews, I said: “Why wouldn’t the president of the United States show the American people his birth certificate?” You have to show a birth certificate to play Little League baseball. It’s a question that should be answered. It’s in the Constitution that you have to be a natural-born citizen of the United States to be president.

Newsweek:  Do you think he isn’t a citizen?

Delay: I have no idea.

Good for Tom.  Anybody who doesn't question Obama's refusal to show his birth certificate is an ignorant dickweed,  and now yelling at me "He DID show it."  Or, an ignorant dickweed now thinking, "what's all this about?" A pox too on Ann Coulter, and others who,  in a cynical act of political expediency,  dismissed it as without merit.  Obama is hiding something; something he feels could have derailed his political career.  So what is it?

While I'm on the subject, I'm very disappointed in World Net Daily, which has almost singlehandedly kept the issue alive.  Joe Farah made a full length documentary that covers every aspect of the case, but instead of posting it, he's selling it.  And just who in hell is going to buy it?  People who already know what's in it, which does not a thing to change minds and advance the issue. The same fate befell The Clinton Chronicles, which in hindsight was spot-on about the Clintons, but kept out of the public domain when  it might have done some good. Of course, there was no You Tube then either.

is a 21st Century Boswell, capturing daily life in Washington DC on film.  Yesterday's submission of several pictures was titled "Today's Gay Protest."  I don't know anything about it (are they protesting Barney Frank?) but this picture caught my eye.  A rather comely looking young woman in green body paint.  But, then  the frontal view. Sigh.  Has a  great personality though, I'll venture.

Urgent - Stop Obamacare

Playing violin music for your congresscritter
 Music they will understand

Apropos the post below (faxing congress), here's the message MoSup just sent.
I cannot express my disgust, dismay, and loathing for anyone in congress who, against the express wishes of the majority of citizens who can spell c-a-t, would vote for nationalizing health care.  FWIW,   I am a practicing RN, and what's going on here has nothing to do with health, and everything to do with the politics of herding everybody onto the liberal plantation. I urge you to summon whatever principles you may possess (assuming you're not a Marxist) and vote against this insult to America.

Would the world have been offended? Well, to start with, the prize isn’t given out by an imaginary “world community.” It’s voted on and handed out by a committee of five obscure Norwegians. So turning it down would have been a slap in the face, yes, to Thorbjorn Jagland, Kaci Kullmann Five, Sissel Marie Ronbeck, Inger-Marie Ytterhorn and Agot Valle.
