Big black kid has a career in the NFL. Possibly expected; it would be strangeer if he forged a career in science, or math or medicine. If the kid needs coaching there are many coaches who would kill for dominion over a large athelete with fast reactions. White adoptive parents, irrelevant in the child's career, get to be portrayed as stars of some sort by Hollywood.

IMHO, not irrelevant in this case. It appears that without the intervention of "white adoptive parents", this kid ends up just another towel pusher at the car wash. If it is a true story and not Hollywood made up Oprah schlock, then maybe it's a story worth telling, because the news is full of condemnation and not enough redemption. I, for one, could use a little cheering up.

Sheesh anon, take a fucking chill pill. It was a wonderful movie, true and wonderful performances all around. Yeah, Michael is a big black football player, his natural mother mother is a crack whore and his adoptive parents are white, so?

He works hard and is successful-your point doucheboy?

My point is: everything that comes out of Hollywood today is poisend by ideology. The message of this movie is nurture trumps nature. The corollary is if America were not so skinflinted and gave all the poor a nice house in the burbs, and maybe weekly tutoring in childcare by Supernanny, then all disfunctional kids would be making a million dollars a year and contributing to society. In Austraila they sent aborigine children to private boarding schools under the same theory - they are still apologising for tearing apart families and destroying aboriginie culture. America seems to be gearing up for a similar experiment. Google "Austraila aboriginie" and see our future.

NO NO NO the US already tried that Boarding school deal with it's Indians, We got Jim Thorpe.
I'd say there is a BIG difference between living in a boarding school and an upper middle class household.

There is no idea discredited enough that leftists won't to try to resurrect it, particullarly after all their current ideas are revealed as failures. Should not Austraila have learned from the US policy of boarding schools to "Kill the Indian, save the man?" After fifty years of effort and money leftists are starting to notice that some families still give their children a junky environment and they are starting to advocate removing the children from the environment as much of the day as possible (without removing the kids legally). the movie paves the way with the ideas that any kid put in a rich caring environment will become a winner in society. Bill Cosby used to give disadvantaged youths work on his set - and in the long run became very disillusioned.
