Spycams

School gave kids laptops to
spy on them at home

Boned Jello

Students in a Philadelphia-area school district have launched a lawsuit accusing their schools of spying on them at home through webcams installed in laptop computers the district gave them. [Mo from DougM]
I'm trying to think of a single instance where the state takes your money, then gives you back something in kind without taking a chip of your freedom away?  Anyone?

I don't see the Post Office as infringing on my freedom in any way. I'm willing to be proven wrong, but stories of standing in line won't do it.

Try mailing a bottle of whiskey to your brother.

Have you ever tried authorizing Fed Ex to leave an envelope in mailbox or to deliver one through the mail slot in your garage door?

or ammunition. You can mail up to 70 pounds of bullets but no cartridges.
GEE, UPS and FEDEX can ship ammo safely...
BUT this friggen BIG BROTHER SCHOOL
thing is outrageous! I am sure it was for "the greater good."
Send em to Gitmo.

The act of taking your money takes your freedom. You no longer have the freedom of choice or freedom of action that money could buy.
Some of this is necessary but should be minimumized by limited government.

I live pretty close to that school district. This is absolutely outrageous.

First of all, the idea that one would 'further education' by simply handing out laptops is insane.

The fact that the school district would have the audacity to monitor WHAT GOES ON IN PEOPLE'S HOMES is a travesty.

A couple of things need to happen

1. The district needs to provide a complete log of every intrusion with the date, time, video/still, and disposition (ie saved/deleted) and the individuals involved. Hey I can picture this being used for blackmail or perhaps planning home invasions/burglaries. Some jerkwad administrator sees you showing your friend your AR-15 and you are a target.

2. Run the districts computers and the home computers of the perps through a full forensics analysis. I'd be willing to bet that there was at least some video of an underage boy or girl undressing in their bedroom. If anything is found, bring kiddie porn charges against those in the district.

3. Fire everyone who knew or should have known this was going on and bring criminal charges accordingly.

4. Bring tar, feathers, pitchforks and torches to the next school board meeting.

Meh, I'm not buying it. My brother lives in Texas, he wants whiskey he can go buy it. Same with ammo. If I feel like paying for that, I can send him a check through USPS, np.
No, I haven't asked FedEx to put their items in my mailbox. Nor have I asked them to drive the firetruck and turn on the sirens to get it to me. If I thought it was important, I'd put out another mailbox with the sign: FedEx. Like they have downtown.
What I have done with USPS is ship illegal drugs (statute of limitations is long up on this one). Coupla tricks with those boyos that you'd never get away with FedEx or UPS. So, more freedom with the dummies what work for the gummint.
