KINDLE PC

Techno Thrills

Boned Jello

I tried every-which way to avoid buying a Kindle book, because of its lack of portability.  But for $9.95 I figgered, what can I lose?  Amazon offers a free download of their PC Kindle player, and that's what you're looking at here.  Is it heavier than a book?  Yes, unless it's War and Peace, but that's what laps are for.  Also, it turns out that the ACER has a convenient screen rotate, so the EeeRotate utility I spoke of here is unnecessary.  The way I look at it, I spent $239 on a notebook computer, and got a Kindle reader free.

By the way, I think one of the reasons I like a PC over a MAC is the opportunity to screw things up, and then fix them.  I'm getting the same sense of adventure here; I beat the man. And look here.  Amazon is selling ACER with "KINDLE INSTALLED."

I prefer the tactile presence of turning pages made from trees; easier on aging eyes.

Aaaaand,
when Teh Regime™ finally gets around to it,
netbooks won't make nearly as dramatic a bonfire.

In Kindle's case Doug, they just delete your stuff. BTW Juice, I still find myself reaching to turn the page, but there's a right arrow key positioned in exactly that place. All very tactile.

Me too, except that it is rather difficult to dynamically change the font size of the dead trees versions.

Does the book in the photo include the truth about Kent State? BTW, I went right out and ordered the Second Civil War as per your recommendation. It should be here any day. And I HIGHLY recommend Secondhand Lions. Best movie I have watched in awhile.

Kent State? Ain't get there yet. Plus, I think we all know the truth about Kent State. A lot of the National Guard guys were bad shots.

Rodger, Still reaching for the pages? HA. Kinda like when I point the house key at the front door for a sec before the- DOH! not remote. New i-phones just arrived today, so your idea of Kindle player for PC {laptop} sounds great. One less thing to buy and carry around.

TheOldMan, Gotta confess you are right about font sizes on paper pages. I've passed on books because the type was too small for comfort

When the Kent State shootings happened the general consensus amongst us missile techs on the ship was that the Guard didn't shoot enough of them...

re: the book: Interesting contrariwise look at John Paul Vann biographer Neil Sheehan, (A Bright Shining Lie). David Halberstam I already knew about. They both prolly lunched with Cronkite.
