Edgy Simpsons

Matt Groening's Dark Side
Simpson's Season Opener Opener

My guess has been that The Simpson's creative team, led by Matt Groening, are annoyed by South Park, and its openly conservative message.  In response, Lisa Simpson has emerged as Groening's, or perhaps Simpsons executive producer Al Jean's alter ego,  through which the liberal message is delivered.  2008's  season opener went full monty though, with the "Homer tries to vote for Obama" clip, where the voting machine changes his Obama vote to McCain's.  More telling: the clip was made available to YouTube several months before the the opener, which amounts to open electioneering.  This season's edgy reference to "Asian slave labor" looked to me like an apology for outsourcing it's own animation to South Korea.  Liberals love to apologize.  South Park would have followed up with demands that the prepubescent tots be paid  full US wages, resulting in them losing their jobs, and dying of starvation.  Which is why South Park wins the cartoon ideology war.  I still love the Simpsons, but shame on them for exploiting little, defenseless cartoon characters.

Funny thing is, South Park is only "openly conservative" when compared to the other animated shows. I tend to view them more as equal opportunity lampooners. But since the lefties, especially those in Hollywood, seem to lead the world in moronic statements (much to the surprise of the MSM), South Park simply finds more targets on the left.

Since I suspect the people behind the Simpsons, like Seth MacFarlane, are unapologetic lefties, I also suspect that Groening wants to make Lisa his "Brian" from Family Guy. I'm guessing that, at this point, Family Guy has probably surpassed the Simpsons in popularity among the fruits and nuts.

Just a thought.

I thought there was a quote of one of the creators of South Park saying, "I hate conservatives, but I loath liberals." I can't find it. I think they are Libertarians.

Although at some awards show they did want to "come out of the closet and admit they were Republicans."

Many conservatives have attacked South Park for its exuberant vulgarity, calling it “twisted,” “vile trash,” a “threat to our youth.” Such denunciations are misguided. Conservative critics should pay closer attention to what South Park so irreverently jeers at and mocks. As the show’s co-creator, 32-year-old Matt Stone, sums it up: “I hate conservatives, but I really fucking hate liberals.”

My post on this in 2005 contained this link.
