GWB's handling of 9-11, his prosecution of the WOT and his tax cutting policies were damned commendable, but his broken veto pen with respect to spending bills was absolutely abhorrent. Unfortunately, the latter will end up being be his lasting legacy to American history because libtard academia will never give him credit for taking the fight to the enemy and protecting our nation after 9-11.

I'm not smart enough to know if TARP "saved"the US economy. I do know one or more very large entities made a run on US finances in Sept 08, just when Uhbama was flagging in the polls, just in time to make GWB look bad at the end of his term. Whether this was a feint to help Uhbama or a genuine run on the dollar is still not clear, but if I had to argue one way or the other whether TARP was necessary, I would say it did save a lot of campaign donations for many politicians. If more of the major lending institutions went down it would have resulted in thousands of wealthy, powerful people losing money. Think Bernie Madoff x 100. The stock market would have crashed and even closed for a period but business in the U.S. would have gone on without the weak sisters, reckless gamblers and crooks selling worthless paper who did not play by the rules. We'd have taken the hit right then and spent a few years recovering, but we would have had a recovery, not the possibility we have now of massive inflation robbing everyone who did play by the rules. For the forseeable future, the government will print money to slowly buy up the bad debt owned by some of the nations' wealthest and sleaziest people, and they will continue to donate huge sums to pols of both parties to continue to have access to whomever is in power.
Uhbama was right about one thing: I am the enemy - of the enemy of The People, the US government as currently populated.

I admire Bush for ridding the World of two tyrannies, but he was a lousy President on the domestic front. We shouldn't allow his administration's exercise in economic bubble blowing to disappear down the memory hole. Here's a Four Corners documentary on the causes of the current economic crisis and the likelihood of a much larger one. Suck on this, Coulter.

I too was reminded of Bush's essential character. He is a gentleman, a rarity today among ex-presidents. If I knew everything I know now, back in 2000 and 2004, I would still unhesitatingly pull his lever. And pray harder.
