Fred Upton, a Dim Bulb

Fred Upton, worse than just a dim bulb
Feeling heat, lawmaker sees light on incandescents

Fred Upton - a dim bulb
Still, [CFLs] were slow to catch on, prompting industry, environmentalists and lawmakers to team up and give consumers a push. Mr. Upton joined Rep. Jane Harman, California Democrat, to co-sponsor legislation to phase out incandescent bulbs beginning in 2012. Upton flips a switch on CFL bulbs
I've often thought that a book which identified and profiled the legislator who "flipped the switch" on, say the top 100  worst pieces of legislation during the twentieth century,  would be a best seller. Like who introduced the Social Security act?  Who was the bonehead who suggested that DDT should be banned?  Whose  brilliant idea was it to criminalize our flush toilets?  What idiot sponsored the bill that outlawed the incandescent light bulb?  What nitwit ...  wait! That last was Rep, Fred Upton (R MI).  YOU BASTID!

I propose that Mr. Upton is a good Tea Party target in 2012.  Not because he fails some ideological purity test of my concoction; because he's clearly an unprincipled opportunist (can you say Charlie Crist?).
Three years after he led the charge to require consumers to ditch their comfortable old incandescent lights in favor of those twisty CFL bulbs, Rep. Fred Upton now wants to be the man to help undo that law as the next chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

That about-face is not unique among lawmakers looking to atone for stances they've taken over the past decade as they seek to gain top posts in a decidedly more conservative Republican Congress, but his reversal underscores how intent the GOP is on proving it has broken with past practices.
As bad as they are, the Pelosis, Waxmans, and Boxers are principled when it come to politics.  Those principles happen to be the same held by Lenin, Stalin, and Hitler, but they are unwavering and unapologetic about that.  Weasels like Fred Upton make me sick.

I thought about those useless CFLs as I put 60 watt bulbs under the old sheets that protected my plants last night. (around 30 last night)

What would we do without the federal government to save us from our wicked, wicked ways?

I read a story somewhere about somebody in Germany (I think) who is marketing "heat bulbs". They look and act suspiciously like light bulbs, but they are apparently legal (for now) in the EU, which is "ahead" of the US in banning incandescent bulbs.

Low top 100, but I flip the switch on the moron who authorized the 1-dollar coin without cessation of the printing of the 1-dollar bill. Can they not see Canada from their porch? England?
