Rodge: Incorrect.
Prohibition was repealed because the no one wanted to try to enforce it. Every single attempt to punish someone for flaunting it ended in jury nullification.
Not one successful prosecution.
"The economy" was just a face saving excuse for repealing an amendment that only special interests ( factory owners, feminists, and puritanical zealots ) wanted. -
