Priorities-Schmiorities
a cultural microcosm
Reusebal Bagging
Oregon’s state Senate will be conducting a hearing on Tuesday to determine whether the state should be the first in the union to ban non-reusable shopping bags in all retail outlets. -[Oregon state legislature pushes shopping bag ban at start of 2011 session]
You will not convince me that the 40+ years of environmental religious studies promulgated by liberal educators are not directly involved in our seeming inability to set priorities.  Of all the pressing problems we have, and I assume Oregon has not been magically spared, to make as a priority banning paper shopping bags is, or ought to be. a public outrage.  Instead we get ho-hummary from the peeps.
The proposal has at least a fighting shot of making it into law, according to Patrick Gleason, the director of state affairs for ATR. The Oregon House of Representatives is split evenly between Democrats and Republicans, and the state Senate has a slight Democratic majority.
There you have it.  Like everything else in this rotting culture, this boils down to whether there's enough relative sanity (Republican legislators) to stop the  barbarians (democrats) at the gate.  Sheesh.

More Willamette Valley hippie-ism.

It just galls these sorry fucks that they don't have the votes to ban machineguns or repeal must issue CCW.

They did have the votes to raise the income tax to the second highest in the nation, just behind NYC residents. And now they can't understand why they have a 150 million dollar shortfall this year, or why everyone with money suddenly became a Washington resident.

I had the pleasure of listening to my new Daughter-in-law gibber echo babble at dinner Saturday. She wants to be cremated so that she doesn't take up valuable land.

I promise to pick up the slack and use twice as many plastic bags as I used to. The garbage men like it when I put the cat litter in them instead of the direct dump method.

Just kidding, I don't use plastic bags I use spotted owl intestines, tied off with free range, locally grown, cat gut..

Perhaps they expect your footman, social secretary, or aide to carry all these things. It's what they use.
