Justice Department sues on behalf of Muslim teacher

If she told them during her job interview that she might have to go to Mecca sometime in the next few years, the school could have made a better informed decision to hire her, or not, and might have been able to plan ahead to accomodate her wish with some advance notice and preparation.
Where I worked, taking more than two weeks vacation at a time was discouraged, but one time I told my boss once a year ahead of time I would take my four weeks all at once the following year, and we worked it out.
This isn't religious discrimination on the part of the school, but merely the reasonable expectation that an employee will show up for work.
I'm Catholic and I'll be out for three weeks to see the Pope in Rome; I'm Lutheran and I'm going for three weeks to tour the Holy Land, I'm a pagan and I'm going to Sturgis to get drunk for a week, I'm KKK and I'm going to Georgia to burn crosses for three weeks, I'm a super religious Muslim and I'm going hadji every year...
Come to work or get fired. End of story. The Uhbamanation wants to fuck with every value Americans cherish and rub it in our faces. They go out of their way to piss off middle, conservative, traditional America.

I hate to say it, gunner, but if she had so informed them, and they had made a negative decision based on that, she probably would have had grounds for a discrimination suit.
I don't see any winning in this climate. I'm just gonna curl up and wait for the 2012 election.
