Heh, speaking of Gerard, this is a must read, about vague food. And truth be told, I like liver cheese, on rye with mustard and onionl

I do too! Hold the onion and don't tell me what liver cheese really is. Interesting, my word verification is "chems". Go figure.

"vague food"
Well heck...Even tho potted meat ain't up to the quality level of canned deviled ham, it ain't that bad on soda crackers for a snack with a dash of hot sauce.
And... although I haven't had pork neck bones in a ready to eat condition, I feel that I can safely say that boiled neck bones (little salt) served with steamed rice, stir fried bok choy, soy sauce, and some sliced green onions (with the broth/soup on the side), is some real fine grub.
Onward...properly made souse is good.
Further...I used to be sorta partial to a snack of vienna sausage and porknbeans before they added chicken to the VennieWinnies. They lost a lot of flavor with that innovation.
No comment, for now, on the rest.

Liver Cheese is a pork, beef, and veal meatloaf. It contains neither liver nor cheese. I haven't had it for years, but it was my favorite lunch meat as a kid. I haven't had it since I learned that it didn't really have liver in it.

Best vague food I ever ate was some braunschweiger (a spreadable smoked liverwurst) that I got in a meat market in New Ulm, MN. Stuff was great on crackers, bread, or just by the spoonful.

My grandmother had us convinced for years that sardines, Vienna sausages, potted meats, etc were treats. They were store bought food that came in a can, something that was almost never in her house or served at her table. Except for Spam - fried spam was a lunchtime staple in her house.

All these vague foods mentioned are wonderful... if you want to kick off a gout attack.
