Why are Western and coalition forces still fighting in Afghanistan?

British MP Rory Stewart, a quite brilliant speaker,  asks "Why are Western and coalition forces still fighting in Afghanistan?"  I didn't want to watch this, and did only because of cuzzin ricky's recommendation.  Even then I thought to quit listening several times, but could not.  I  now recommend it to you.

The truth is I'd have been delighted to see us out of that wretched country long ago, save for this nagging thought.  Although never really articulated by The Great Unarticulater G.W. Bush,  central to our strategy in taking on Iraq and Afghanistan simultaneously was a need to isolate Iran within the region.  I still see that as a worthwhile, even necessary strategy.  So there's that.

A thought too far
I know what you're thinking.  "Okay braniac, if you were in charge, what would you do?'  Fair enough.  I'd turn both Pakistan and Afghanistan into a huge crater lake and stock it with bass. Seriously though, my answer lies in the question "How would Reagan have handled Iran over the past decade?"  I think we all have a general idea, but it never happened, so it's prolly too late.  So, this.  Get rid of Obama;  elect a government that will promote tapping 100% of our energy resources;  build that missile shield;  reinvoke the Monroe Doctrine; drive leaded gas muscle cars to our hearts content, and let the middle east rot. All of these are doable.

Or, we could just subjugate the motherfuckers, and take all the oil. We'd also need to kill anyone who bitched about it, but I'm OK with that.

I'm becoming more and more "OK with that" as time goes on.

Then secure our borders.

Have to disagree with G W Bush as the Great Unarticulater. Parse a Barry speech and a W speech and you'll find only one has actual content.

Barry as the brilliant orator and W as inarticulate are media creations based on their liberal bias. Corpseman, Austrian, 57 states are all as bad as any Bushism, and BHO's narcissism and entitlement are nauseating.

Let's not get carried away. If you have to take a ship ... . I'm still lobbying to get Hawaii annulled.

Mr. Stewart makes some excellent points, especially about the huge distortions caused by throwing excessive billions of dollars into a turd world sh!t hole like A-stan. He has perfectly valid points about how Pakistan is much more the center of gravity for Islamo-facist terrorism in central Asia than A-stan. He also makes an excellent point about how each and every state department apparatchik and military commander and NGO parasite believes they are there at the critical place and the critical time and that just a smidgen more effort, money, troops, material, building projects, native education, etc. will push things over the edge, at long last, toward that light at the end of the tunnel. It's all an illusion by a bunch of overly motivated self deceiving fools. My Mia culpa here, I'm a retired, recovering, military intelligence analyst who worked on Iraq & A-stan. I once had high hopes we could rid A-stan of terrorist organizations that would likely pose a threat to western civilization, but not longer. Any one who has really seen and tried to operate or live in that terrain will realize the utter hopelessness of trying to control it. If we have the will (not likely with the current administration) we can set Iraq onto the path to become a responsible member of the world community. A-stan always has been and will be a tribal basket case for the foreseeable future.

Mr. Stewart is also completely full of sh!t on several counts. He states that if US, UK, Canadian, etc. soldiers were to leave A-stan that it is unlikely the Taliban would recapture Kabul and the country such as it is. This is horse manure. So long as the Taliban continues to receive financial, political and material backing from elements of the Pakistan government they will be the strongest force in the region once our troops withdraw. The only way to counter that would be to supply the “pro-western” government in Kabul from the North. How's that working out for us so far? (Soto voice: Not very well Sparky!)
He also states that the Taliban would be unlikely to host Al Qaida or other terrorist groups who are likely to be serious threats to the West. This demonstrates a severe lack of understanding of the influence wielded by Gulf based terrorists and their financial backers prior to our military intervention in 2001. I also don't believe Mr. Stewart has a really good understanding of Islam as practiced by the Pashtuns, not that I'm an expert, but a lot of tax dollars went toward me studying the culture, religio-politics, etc.

In a nutshell, he has some valid points, some completely off base, and take the whole thing with an enormous grain of salt.

We should get out of A-stan because we lack the political will to do what is necessary! We are unwilling to do what must be done to accomplish our strategic objectives, therefore the best we can achieve at considerable expenditure of blood and treasure is a stalemate.

Ge the F--- out now and stop sending our best and bravest to die for a lost cause!

Sincerely, Armageddon Rex

I only say the first part of this where Senior Butt-Whipe asked, "Why are we still there?"

Because it's a cesspool of twisted hate that we in the USA can't really understand. "It" wants to kill us. "It" should really be working the land and making food instead. I call it "The It" factor. Now, I did not watch this video past that opening line so I do not know where this little fucktard who doesn't even have the strength to hold his own goddamned microphone is going BUT the last thing I need in my life is another Smart Guy (tm) trying to tell an old man like me that's he's wrong. What he calls progressive, I call youthful ignorance. Pisses me off.

Al Quaida exists because the Saudis and the Pakistanis want it to.

Which two countries were the 9-11 hijackers from, pray tell?

I am really beginning to believe that the proper response to 9-11 should have been to nuke Pakistan and Sauidi Arabia, and to give Mullah Omar 24 hours to produce Bin Laden before nuking Taliban controlled Afghanistan.

We may have been a bit too kind that year.

It seems that our once great Nation is swirling around the bowl , and on the verge of going down the drain . After all that we've paid to get control of that $#!+hole , are we supposed to just tuck our tails between our legs pack up , and admit defeat ? We have the worlds most powerful military sitting on the worlds gas pump ! WHY NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION ? Just say'n ; ) > SMIBSID
