Not only are we talking to the Haqqani folks, we are also talking with Gulbuddin Hekmatyar of Hisb-i-Islami.
Hekmatyar was NOT one of the good guys during the war against the Soviets. He was in it for himself, for his Hizb-i-Islami, and for ISI. ISI is who set him up, and recommended that the US give him money and weapons. And we gave it to him. Meanwhile, he killed more Afghan freedom fighters than he did Soviets and Afghan army.
And now we are actually talking with him? He was the main reason Afghanistan never had stability after the Soviets left. Is ISI pushing this? I wouldn't be surprised. -
