Wild Target

At The Cinema

WILD TARGET

When veteran hit man Victor Maynard (Bill Nighy) finds himself unable to kill his latest target, Rose (Emily Blunt), he winds up with an unexpected sidekick, Tony (Rupert Grint), who thinks Victor is a detective in this action-packed comedy from Britain. Now, with Rose and Tony tagging along, Victor tries to deal with the dual forces of his overbearing mother (Eileen Atkins) and a very angry client (Rupert Everett) who wants Rose dead.

WILD TARGET

"I hate when they do that"
(Roll)
The brilliance of this move is that it walked the thinnest line possible, where one misstep would have sent it into full-blown Jerry Lewis slap-stick.  It never happened.  The film is instead a classic, droll,  British tour de force.  In an  opening scene (depicted above) hit man Victor Maynard (Bill Nighy) retrieves a bag of money from a rented locker; payment for his latest job.  "Half now, Half later,  ... I hate when they do that,"  he intones"  In the next scene he's matter-of-factly Scotch taping currency halves together. I gave this film 5 stars for the joy it gave me.  Net Flix Instant

Definitely worth the time to watch. Nighy is brilliant as is Atkins playing the mother. Particularly her answer to a gift(the bird) she could not stand.

The film entirely depended on Nighy's ability to keep the character from becoming Inspector Clouseau, and he did. Brilliant.

I enjoyed that as well. You might like Assassins in Love.

Wild Target is easily one of the best movies of 2010. Every single performance is a gem: Nighy, Blunt, Atkins and Grint can all be proud of this one.

Almost defines "dark comedy", and the opening scene, where Nighy follows the larcenous Blunt, is brilliant.

And as I recall individual scenes, they all make me laugh. Even the hits are funny.

My favorite scene was the one of Ron Weasley smoking pot.

I think Rupert Grint was trying to break out of being type-cast.

OK, back. The world is going to Hell in a hand basket and you send me off for belly laughs. Have you no decency, sir?
