Yep, I've always considered the Washington Monument to be a middle finger to the rest of the world.
Glad the Brits appreciate his perseverence.
Not bad for a guy who lost almost all his battles.

DougM: Washington didn't show a lot of imagination / flexibility early in the war (he tried fighting the British on their own terms).

However, he was damn good at logistics: Everything from organizing wagon trains to bring in food to coordinating small pox inoculations. It was logistic that kept the Revolution alive. Eventually it became too expensive for the British to keep the colonies in the empire by force of arms.

All I can write is they should be glad he wasn't pissed and didn't decide to invade.

Not to go all Godwin on ya here, Rodg, but someone is leaving Hitler out of the equation.

The Limeys were/are slow learners. In the war of 1812 Andy Jackson an his boys relieved the British Minister of Defence from budgeting for a entire British Regiment, in the battle at Nawolins, since there weren`t no body to submit no budget request...

Alear - the Brits beat Hitler, they did not beat GW

HILN,
Yep, and it didn't hurt gettin' the French involved.
I'm a great admirer of the man.
What he did under the circumstances was truly heroic.
If it weren't for him, whyyy we'all'd be speakin' English today.

The deal for the poll was that the Brits had to face them on the battle field, hence Rommel was a contestant while Hitler was considered only a political opponent.
