USS Wisconsin

Putting Things in Perspective
USS Wisconsin

Res Ipsa Loquitur

The USS Wisconsin at her berth in Norfolk, VA.

This is pretty much what the Japs in Manilla might have seen in 1945

The Navy wanted to moor her at Solomons Island , Md. but the locals raised HELL . I'd have loved to have had her ; ) > SMIBSID

My Uncle Bucky served on that ship in WW2. And yes he was from Wisconsin.

I did a tour as the V4 divo on USS Constellation in the mid 80's. We did a few ops with the Missouri and got to see her fire those big sixteens a few times. I got to do a reenlistment ceremony with a couple of my men standing under the guns. Just awesome. Great photo.

For a moment there, I thought it was the Barn Army Naval Auxillary, sailing up the Potomac to the Foggy Bottom Naval Gunfire Range, Car Wash and Ice Cream Palace for bombardment practice followed by double-dip waffle cones for all hands. Shit, disappointed again.

Every time I see video of the Missouri/Wisconsin/New Jersey fire a 16" broadside, I get a slight woody. If I were to see the fall of shot onto the current White House, U.S.Senate, San Francisco, or the Massachusetts State Assembly House, I do believe I would go to Condition Red.

I have a small Lyle cannon . It'll throw a 10 oz. Budwieser can filled with concrete 1/4 of a mile with a 1/2 pound charge of "F" black powder ! Not quit Iowa class , but it'll make snot run out of yer nose when she goes off ! WE GOTTA HAVE A GET TOGETHER ! ; ) > SMIBSID

Can't see down to the waterline, so I don't see the bone in 'er teeth (white bow wake at speed).
How fast you reckon she's goin', there?
[insert collision-alarm sound effect]

Reminds me of an Annapolis-area joke.
Why do they put keels on the training sailboats?
So the Middies can't run 'em up into the parking lot.
