Ilaria Graziano - Pearls

"I have no idea to this day what that Italian lady is singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know.  Some things are best left unsaid.  Now I can think she was singing about something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words and makes your heart ache because of it."  Grin

For all your bluster, you're really a soft touch, aren't you?

If the theme is Japanese soundtracks, here's one from one of my "go to sleep" movies:

Bebop was WAY ahead of it's time and contained some great music. SO glad that Keanu Reeves was never able to get his live-action version off the ground, he would have ruined it...

I agree Tim. I hope they don't do typical Hollywood and ruin what is great source material.

I found the Italian lyrics and translated them to English.
In the past, I found in looking at Italian opera libretti translated to English that some of the subtle emotion and connotation of the original language is often lost, but this will give an idea of what she sings of, which we sense just from her voice:

Tra le mie braccia fragili
Stringo il vuoto che sa di te
Respiro le tue parole che
Vivono in una melodia

E dolcemente sognerò

In my delicate arms
Is an emptiness that knows of you,
I breathe your words
That live in a melody,

And I will sleep sweetly.

I luminosi tramonti riflessi nei
Tuoi occhi languidi e grandi
Le mie perle d’amore

The bright sunsets reflecting
In your large, lanquid eyes,
My pearls of love.

In uno sguardo tu
Sai donare un sorriso al mio volto che
Ora ti cerca tra lacrime
Che hanno formato l’oceano
Nel quale sempre ritornerai da me

In a glance, you smile at my face.
Now, I look for you through tears
that formed the ocean
in which you always return to me.

La pallida luna m’illumina
Mentre il vento mi parla di te
La danza del mare ti porterà
Sulle rive della realtà
E finalmente ti rivedrò

The pale moon shines on me
while the wind speaks to me of you.
The dance of the sea will bring you
onto the shores of reality
and at last I'll see you again.

The song version of Lillium from "Elfen Lied."

I'm surprised there so many closet anime fans here. My favorite Ilaria tune is I Do from Ghost In The Shell.

Btw, the quote attributed to myself above is paraphrasing The Shawshank Redemption.
