1950's Car Quiz

1950's Car Quiz

I came so close.  My two misses were transposing the model years 1953 and 1954 for some Pontiacs ( or Mercurys - I forget). There weren't 3 million models back then, so I came to know them all, even to the point of identifying a model by it's engine sound. My hat's off to any who do better

Only missed two myself, and I'm something of an old-car nut. I couldn't tell the difference between a Chrysler New Yawker and a Desoto.

Never messed with Mopar stuff much.

73% average guy. Between 0-8 years old during the golden years of auto design. Enjoyed the trip. Thanks Rodg.

I got 81%, nine wrong. This test was so much fun! I loved the cars of that era. My friends and I visited car dealerships when the new cars came out. The good old days are gone...

This is OT, but maybe someone here can point me in the right direction. I love the look of cars of the 1930s. I would like a car that loks like that, but not a real one or replica. I would like one with the looks, but modern air conditioning, power steering and breaks, and so on. Anyone know where I should be looking?

CHRYSLER PT Cruiser comes to mind skoonj

Pardon me my good King but my kids told me if I owned a PT I would also need to buy a rainbow license plate to complete the look...? The nearest I find Skoonj is an MG last mfged in the late 60's.

100% here, Your Highness. I don't know if I should be grateful for retaining my memory, or depressed about being old enough to remember.

Every once in awhile you'll find old cars that have been totally taken apart and put back together with updated systems. They appear from mild to wild and sometimes can be had for a decent price. I think they call the high end ones "restomods" Look on Ebay, Auto Trader or search your favorite vehicle and add "restored" to the search.

My father once had a De Soto.

I know this because I found a car in the woods with a tree growing through it that said De Soto.

That's all I know about Flintstone cars.

There are even some banks that will finance retro classics.

You beat me by 1...45/48. Of course I've never seen most of those cars in original showroom condition, what with being minus 20 years old when the last of them were new. I guess spending most of my teenage years with my nose in Hot-Rod magazines helped a bit.

My dad was an old car nut, so that made me one as well. We used to name old cars by make model & year any time we saw one. That kind of training left me with 100% here, boss.

46/48. Cardinal sin on my part swapping a '58 Buick for an Olds. I'm so embarrassed, or senile.
Dad had a pink '57 Plymouth Fury just like the one in the pic. He ordered a blue Ford for his company car, but his boss did not specify what he wanted, and when the pink Plymouth showed up, he dumped it on my Dad, taking the blue Ford for himself.
Well, it was a nice trip. Thanks Rodge

You are the Real King; I made 45/48. My dad would have known all of them, plus anything from the 40's and 30's. He would have known a good many from the 20's. He worked as a grease monkey, when he was a kid, and was always looking at cars. He didn't like the oil plugs on 1930's Fords, because they were wide, and always blew oil out on you when you pulled the plug. The night before he died he said "When I get out of here, I want to go shop for a new car."

I did good. Two of the Mercs were hard as I was not in kindergarden yet when they were made. That 59 DeSoto must be rare...

Coincidence from Instapundit:
SO YOU WANT TO DRIVE AN AMERICAN CLASSIC: Ford may have just the ticket for you, brand new modern steel-reinforced, welded and rust-proofed 40 Ford Coupe bodies. It’s part of a restoration line that includes the 32 Deuce Coupe and the 65-70 Mustangs. All you add is a powertrain – “that thang got a Hemi?” – an interior, and a chassis, and you’re in business. See, free markets satisfy customer needs, dreams AND memories!

See the article here:
Old things are new

I had thought about the first Mustangs as being neat, but realized they were a Falcon in wolves clothing, and handled about the same, so I passed.
