I know. A lousy link, but I'm lazy.

JFC! I originally had her saying "... we were only 14," but thought it too much.

We got the 18 yr head full of mush franchise because 18ers could be in the military. Take voting age to 5, except for active military. How about that?
Make me King For A Month and I'll take care of it. I'll demonstrate some lamppost multitasking too in that time.

Hmmm.... I have fingers full of mush - make that voting age 25, not 5, above.

As I recall, each 14 yr old vote would count as 1/4 vote. Yep. You read that right. phukrs will try anything.

LTG Tailgunner--as I recall the argument for the 26th amendment was if a man could be drafted at 18, he should be allowed to vote at 18. Soon after, most of the states lowered their drinking ages to 18 under the same argument. Course the draft argument went away two years after the amendment was ratified, when the military became all-volunteer.

I'm with you--25 to vote.

Taxpayers only. No unmarried women.

I remember talking with a gentleman about the trials and tribulations he had gone through with his two daughters. They were absolutely convinced that he was ignorant and evil for a long time, but they were now getting along fine. I said, "let me guess, they changed their minds after they graduated from college and had to go to work?" He said, "You nailed it."

No representation without taxation. If you don't pay tax, you don't get a vote. Simple, clean & fair.

One of my favorite movie scenes is in 2012 when Southern California slides into the Pacific. It is spectacular and prophetic. The dipshits in California deserve their fate - will the last sane person to leave California please turn out the lights....and shut off the gas.

on second thought, leave the gas on... burning it off is the only way to be sure.

No government employees.

Maybe Robert Heinlein had it right in Starship Troopers; citizenship and voting rights only if you signed on to serve.

I've been thinking more and more since Clinton and Obama that the POTUS aka Commander-in-Chief office should be REQUIRED to have served.

If 18 year olds had the vote in '68, clean Gene would have won, or HHH. Back then I thought it a good thing, as I was draftable, and felt totally un-represented.
Now, the 18 year olds in the military can vote, but their ballots are used as cage lining, or tossed as invalid for any one of a number of reasons. They can be shot dead, drive a $50 million tank or ship{or more $$'s, CVN}, maintain planes carrying nuclear weapons, or submarines that can obliterate civilization. But they are not responsible enough to be allowed alcoholic beverages.
Yah, chur, that makes a lot of sense.
If you don't have a W2 or 1099, no vote, unless you're old like me.

Maybe I missed the obvious but the ugly fact that Obama (spit) got elected mean the 5 year olds are already voting????
