And on Friday, 11/09/2012, Texas started a similar petition.

Next?

It doesn't matter that t won't be granted.

If enough people sign the petition, then you know that is a state where you want to live.

My wife is finishing her residency as an ER doc, so we might be looking for a state with no income tax.

Texas has always called to me anyway, so it's not much of a stretch to move there.

Of course it won't be granted, and I'll hazard the originators know that. These petitions do lay down a marker, and they will certainly open a dialog within the states involved. If the pols sense a tidal wave of support, it could lead to outright secession, which would snowball.

At this juncture secession is far superior an option than a military coup, which would lead to civil war. Both however are preferable than living under Obamunist rule (as an academic point).

First, don't ask permission. That implies that you need it.
What do you do when they say "No!" say "Pretty please?"
When you secede … just f'n do it,
then write a declaration explaining why.
Oh, and don't bombard any Federal island forts.

Hey, Doug? Federal Island fort? Can the Benghazi consulate be considered an island? The USS Cole? Israel or South Korea?

The enemy smells our weakness, and are on the march. We don't watch out, Texas will be our only island.

I was just me but hell and damn, I think I am a bigot. Imagine that!? I'm not sure about the "hate" thing but the rest of it fits like a glove.

Definition of BIGOT

: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

— big·ot·ed adjective

— big·ot·ed·lyadverb

Alear,
I was referring to Ft Sumter.
Personally, I think the CSA would still exist, if they hadn't given Lincoln the excuse he needed to invade.
Don't get me wrong, I probably would have fought on the Union side (I can't imagine fighting for slavers, no matter what the other rationalizations they used).
I'm just sayin' that bombarding Ft Sumter was a very bad mistake.
