ACC: Atlantic Coast Conference. Maryland is leaving it to go to the Big 10 conference but still beat their Big 10 opponent in the Big 10/ACC challenge.

It means that they won their ACC/Big10 challenge game. One of only 2 teams to do so last night. That helped the ACC. Their leaving doesn't help or hurt the ACC in any way but perception. The ACC lost a member to another conference. That doesn't "look" good. Not that it matters a hill of beans.
