Trying to Identify the Next Far-Right Extremist Before He Shoots
It’s easy to see the crazed race hatred of a violent white supremacist after the fact… but getting them before they kill is an imperfect science at best. Eliza Shapiro reports on the race to stop the next mass murderer before he strikes.

(Ahem)

God this was depressing. At first.  Ma Perkins sent it with this  notation:

"SOB was a skinhead, skinheads are socialists, as Nazi's are socialists. WTF?"

'Zactly.  Unlike at the New York Times, credit is given here for not using the words "Tea Party" or "Conservative."  However,  when you cater to the left (Daily Beast), and use "Far-Right Extremist," they're implied.  This study in Liberal psycho-babble does have a happy ending— Below, a handful of contiguous comments.

I have a better idea.  Since the only consistent features of government-run programs are their appalling failure, corruption and oppression, how about if we just allow an armed populace to defend itself EVERYWHERE instead of limiting the places where people who have been through a background check can carry concealed weapons?

Ronin of rouen

considering the last two were both lefties maybe an article telling us how to spot them would be more useful for anyone not planning a move to norway.

Who knew national socialists practicing selective progressive eugenics were "far right"?

COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.
ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible Times. It’s 9%.
COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?
ABBOTT: No, that’s 16%.
COSTELLO: You just said 9%.
ABBOTT: 9% Unemployed.
COSTELLO: Right 9% out of work.
ABBOTT: No, that’s 16%.
COSTELLO: Okay, so it’s 16% unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, that’s 9% . . .
COSTELLO: WAIT A MINUTE. Is it 9% or 16%?
ABBOTT: 9% are unemployed. 16% are out of work.
COSTELLO: IF you are out of work you are unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, you can’t count the “Out of Work” as the unemployed. You have to look for work to be unemployed.
COSTELLO: BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!!!
ABBOTT: No, you miss my point.
COSTELLO: What point?
ABBOTT: Someone who doesn’t look for work, can’t be counted with those who look for work. It wouldn’t be fair.
COSTELLO: To whom?
ABBOTT: The unemployed.
COSTELLO: But they are ALL out of work.
ABBOTT: [continued here]

Fifty year old manure spreader FOR FREE - ( Washington , D.C. )

Fifty-year old manure spreader. Not sure of brand. Said to have been produced in Hawaii but documents look forged but may be made in Kenya . Used for a few years in Indonesia before being smuggled into the US via Hawaii . Of questionable pedigree. Does not appear to have ever been worked very hard. Apparently it was pampered by various owners over the years. It doesn't work very often, but when it does it can really spread the manure and sling it for amazing distances. Unfortunately it is extremely costly to operate. It also comes with a very loud motor which gulps down the oil and grease and is even more expensive to operate. Backfires and whines a lot and always seems to be in vacation mode. Sign on motor looks to be Moochie Brand, I am hoping to retire this manure spreader and motor next November and don't really don't want it hanging around getting in the way. I would prefer a foreign buyer that is willing to relocate this manure spreader out of the country. I would be willing to trade this manure spreader for a nicely framed copy of the United States Constitution.

This isn't the first time e-mail has been sent in my name, but it is the first time I've been the recipient and therefore know about it in real time.  So, I am not operating as vladimer rozhko (Russian for Russian Commie Asshole). Just in case.

The NYT cracks me up.  There's the headline; here's the story:

A poll released this week from Marquette Law School shows Mr. Thompson ahead, but a large chunk of voters still undecided.

How To Save UN-downloadable Online Videos

Whether they're on YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu or Netflix.

Downloading from YouTube used to be as simple as clicking a button. Video files used to be exposed. You could just find their URL and download them. Unfortunately that is no longer the case, but that doesn't mean saving a YouTube video to your hard drive is impossible. Adapter is a great free audio and video converter for Windows and OS X that also happens to have a YouTube downloader built-in.

VLC can also save and convert YouTube videos.

I love stuff like this.  But remember, the next Windows or Apple updates you get will likely carry with them Hollywood's latest disabling program.  My advice then, is to buy an 800 Yotta HD, download the entire Netflix library, and go into business for yourself before it's too late.

Culture War

News From the Front
Openly gay athletes still scarce at Olympic Games
Res Ipsa Loquitor
Why Was This Story Written?
Why did AP writer Jill Lawless write this article?  Is it that she's a lazy slug, looking for an easy story? Is she herself gay,  and trying to curry favor with a lesbian  Bulgarian weightlifter?   Does AP have a cultural victim story quota ?

Res Ipsa LoquitorThere are more than 10,000 athletes competing at the London games, but when the gay website OutSports.com set out to count how many were openly gay, it came up with 23.

"It's an absurdly low number," said site co-founder Jim Buzinski. He said that compared to the arts, politics or business worlds, "sports is still the final closet in society."

Estimates of the percentage of gay people in any given population vary widely. In a 2010 survey by Britain's Office for National Statistics, 1.5 percent of respondents identified themselves as gay or bisexual, although many consider that an underestimate.

This is where the story of Conrad Mickelbauer, the gay sprinter who clocked a 9:57 in the 100m, but denied a spot on the U.S. Olympic team because he was gay will be told.

. *tap tap tap*

I'm  waiting. That's because there is no Conrad Mickelbauer excluded for gayness story.

"I am an archer, middle-aged and a lesbian," the 46-year-old South African archer Karen Hultzer told me— but said she looked forward to the day when her sexuality was not an issues.

HELL-OH?   Maybe it's an issue only because gay website OutSports.com set out to count how many were openly gay?

So STFU.
