The "huddled masses" inscription is from a poem by Emma Lazarus and was placed on the Statue base well after the fact of its donation by well meaning people who today are known as pasty-face liberal asshats.

Thanks Rodge. Interesting woman in fact. I hadn't read Colossus in many moons. I guess I never thought to look up the plaque and when it was installed. 1902. Naturally I assumed the hated French had a hand in it.
I propose we strip the old plaque from the monument and install the most important words of the poem;
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "
She was also a Zionist before Zionism was cool.
I'm still blaming the French though for almost everything wrong with the world.
