Did you know that before the computer age, this was part of the equipment of most CEOs of large corporations? The gear was under the desk, of course...no need to be ostentatious about their uselessness.
It was used to fake the boss' signature as he snoozed or went golfing like O'Bummer.

Yes, I watched one time as a secretary slipped a document to be autographed under the pen
as HE was indeed snoozing as the corporation was racking billion dollars deficit...
No matter, the taxpayers were picking the tab!

When I was in grade school (circa 1961) I had to take the bus across town which meant transfering in the middle of the city - there was a stationary store there and, in the window, there was a box with an arm and pen attached - all that it was programmed to do was write signatures.
