SHERLOCK

SHERLOCK—
The best, smartest television series ever made.  Best written.  Best everything.  And what?  We get just three a year.   I've tried three times to get through EP 1 of DOWNTON  (Series 4). Yawn.  It's no longer the best series ever.  Just saying.

I tried three times to watch Sherlock, and could not sit through it.
Entirely too much steady cam crap, sudden successions of scene changes and jumpy changes in camera viewpoints. It reminded me of MTV, and somehow I cannot like the Watson and Sherlock of this series.
Jeremy Brett was the definitive Holmes, IMHO.

Basil is the guy that comes to mind when I think of Holmes but Brett did the best job to date. I've never watched more than 60 seconds of the new series but if Lucy loo gets nekid then I'm in.

I love Jeremy Brett's almost-authentic Holmes, but this series is really clever in weaving classic Holmes lines and situations (sometimes a stretch) into modern times. You gotta pay close attention to catch 'em. Yeah, good stuff!

I liked the first two seasons of Sherlock, but feel season 3 is greatly inferior. It seems like their writers are just "mailing it in."

On the other hand, I've really grown to like "Elementary" over the past season and a half. Jonny Lee Miller's characterization of Sherlock is one of a flesh and bones human being with real struggles. I prefer this version.

The first two shows in Series 3 have been miserably bad. The jump from the building plot was ill conceived and likely impossible to pull off under any circumstances, let alone displaying 3 different scenarios. The introduction of the Baker Street Irregulars without any background of their assemblage was bad writing. Watching characters not before a part of the series, such as Watson's bride said to me that the new writers "don't know their Sherlock!"

A Jack Benny "Well."

I stand by my verdict anyway. Spectacular writing,

I agree that the latest 3 have drifted from the previous offerings. Still great TV tho.
