OXO GOOD GRIPS R GOOD

  STUFF THAT WORKS

OXO

I didn't buy any of the above pictured items because they were made by OXO, but over the years I've discovered that they work like new 5-10 years after I got them.  Slowly the name OXO sunk in as being a good thing. Take that dishwasher brush (you fill the handle with soap).  We had two or three of the cheap models that worked just long enough to prove their value, but not long enough to celebrate a 2nd birthday.  We've used the OXO model for 4-5 years now, and only replaced the brush head twice.  It never leaks soap; never breaks.  So, if you're looking for a kitchen gadget, and not sure which one to choose, go with OXO; you shan't be disappointed.  You're welcome.

ASIDE I use the mandolin almost every day, and it's still as sharp as it was on day one; but for godsake, by some steel mesh gloves.

I inherited a small mandolin slicer. I used it once and was hooked!

I am old and have arthritic hands. Their can opener and potato peeler are fantastic.

Agreed on 99% of what they make...EXCEPT for GARLIC PRESS.
All their designs suck...or at least break quickly.
IKEA surprisingly, makes the cheapest, best, strongest and EASIEST TO CLEAN one!

I have one of their pepper grinders (which I use a lot). Best one I have owned.

You may be right about the garlic press Kauf Buch; I never use it, opting instead to use the grater-or smash and chop.

MAKE MOUNDS AND MOUNDS OF SLAW!
When I was in the Pitch Biz (I pitched The Amazing Ginsu Knife for some 25 yrs.) a yellow and orange plastic mandoline slicer (which in the biz was known as "the chipper") was one of the other enduring items in our stable. But we always figured that, unlike the knife, it was one of those products that was hardly ever used once people actually got it home.

I'm happy to hear that you use and enjoy your mandolin. But we also used to joke that they were actually made by Johnson&Johnson (in order to help them sell more Band-Aids)!

P.S. One of the neatest things about a mandoline is that you can use it to make lattice fries such as are served at Chick-fil-A.

I found 3 OXO items worth my while.

The smooth edge can opener makes tinned cans seem like a 21st Century invention. They reseal good enough for a few days in the fridge.

The no-blood julienne peeler quickly dispatches carrots for slaw.

The high torque whisk is indispensable for blending small batches of salad dressing. You rub the handle between your palms for a power whirl.

They make a great ice cream paddle scoop that uses a steel blade. A carbon steel blade, that blackens with age, and collects those little barnacles in the dish washer. But it works great otherwise.
